Review
Skybet is a sports gambling branch of the Skybet Betting and Gambling group. This group, based in Leeds (UK), is formed by CVC Capital Partners (80%) and Sky Plc (20%). It also includes the brands SkyCasino, SkyVegas, SkyPoker and SkyBingo, all of them licensed under the Alderney Gambling Control Commission in the Channel Islands.
This company started out by taking bets by phone but today they offer their services through their online gambling site only. They don’t have any shops but they don’t really need them, the exposure of the brand is guaranteed thanks to Sky TV, a strategy that has brought many customers to buy a subscription to their premium channel.
Skybet knows customers want to have as much info as possible before placing a bet, that is why they created their section ‘Sporting Life’, where you will find the latest news and articles about your favourite sports.
Sports catalogue
As we mentioned before, Skybet specialises in football and horse racing. However, their catalogue has grown bigger over the years and today you can bet on any sports event broadcast by Sky Sports TV. This includes: football, American football, tennis, US racing, horse racing, greyhounds, snooker, darts, rugby, Formula 1, Moto GP, rally, athletics, boxing, badminton, basketball, cricket, handball, cycling, Gaelic games...
As you can see, their selection is pretty wide, but it doesn’t stop there. As a secondary feature, Skybet gives you the chance of betting in other non-sport related events such as TV shows, politics etc.
Interface and design
Skybet’s web design wears the colours of the Sky plc group brand. A very familiar style for Sky platform users. Besides, it offers a friendly and simple environment. You will not find any kind of useless or unnecessary information, making browsing easier and more intuitive. This is, without a doubt, one of their strong points.
As a funny feature, Skybet also includes a service called “Boss? Look busy!”. This allows you to quickly switch windows in your screen from Skybet to some other job related chart or template. A very useful tool if you plan to bet while on the workplace!
Odds and limitations
SkyBet odds are among the best in the market, especially for football. They often release some special promotions for selected football matches. This means you get better odds than usual for a particular game or a combined bet. The minimum bet is £0.05 and the maximum possible payout depends on the market you are betting on. For instance, if you bet on horse racing or football, the maximum payout is £250,000. But if you bet on some other events like politics instead, the maximum payout is reduced to £25,000. Remember not all markets offer the same payouts, especially when it comes to accumulator bets.
Smartphones and tablets
Skybet supports smartphone browsing and it has its own app for iOS and Android. It includes the same features as the desktop version and it offers an easy and intuitive interface. Besides, Sky has separate apps for each of their contests like Super6 or Fantasy football, both linkable to your Skybet account. Those apps are really popular, even among people who don’t usually gamble.
If that wasn’t enough, there is also an app for each of their other brands like SkyVegas, SkyBingo, SkyCasino and SkyPoker.
Deposits and Withdrawals
The accepted currencies for Skybet accounts are GBP and EUR. However, the following currencies are also accepted when making a deposit: Canadian Dollars (CAD), Australian Dollars (AUD), Euro (EUR), Honk Kong dollars (HKD), Singapur dollars (SGD), Sterling pound (GBP) and American dollars (USD).
The minimum deposit amount depends on the selected currency but, in most cases, it is set at £5 (or currency equivalent). There is no maximum deposit limit.
Skybet accepts most popular debit and credit cards like Visa, Visa Electron, Mastercard, Maestro... and other methods like; Neteller, Paypal, Skrill (Moneybookers) and Ukash.
